The following conversation between Brad and Maria is not in the correct order. Read the lines of the conversation and number them from 1-13.

Well, if he doesn’t come back. Will you marry me?
Oh really! where are you from?
Hello. What’s a lovely girl like you doing in a place like this?
Have you known him long?
Oh. Is he English?
Really? That was quick! Where is he now?
Argentina! Muy bien! Can I buy you a drink?

Yes, he is.
I’m sorry, I don’t speak English very well.
No, thank you. I’m waiting for Steve, my boyfriend.
He went to buy some cigarettes nearly an hour ago. I don’t know where he’s gone.
I’m from Argentina.
No, I met him at a party last week. We’re getting married next month.

En el estilo indirecto ('indirect speech' o 'reported speech') cuando expresamos lo que otra persona ha dicho no es necesario repetir sus mismas palabras. El objetivo es trasladar el sentido de lo que dijo. También puede cambiar el tiempo verbal.

I want to see you in my office He said (that) he wanted to see me in his office

- Se utilizan generalmente verbos como announce, explain, mention, answer, etc. aunque los más comunes son 'tell' y 'say'.

- Podemos también expresar pensamientos.

Robert thinks the dinner was delicious = Roberto piensa que la comida fué deliciosa

- 'that' puede utilizarse habitualmente pero no siempre es necesario.

Robert said (that) the dinner was delicious
