DIFERENCIAS IDIOMÁTICAS Y CULTURALES
“Bill” y no “account”
En español hablamos de “la cuenta”; en inglés, para el restaurante, se
usa bill. Account se reserva para cuentas bancarias, cuentas de
usuario, etc.
Propina
En muchos contextos angloparlantes la propina es parte normal de la experiencia
y se menciona sin drama:
– Preguntar cómo dejarla: Can I add it by card, or is it better in cash?
– Respuesta típica: We really appreciate it.
Culturalmente, puede haber más expectativa de dejar propina que en algunos
lugares de habla hispana, sobre todo en Reino Unido o EE. UU.
Transparencia con los extras
Es bastante normal que en la cuenta aparezcan extra charges por bebidas,
guarniciones, etc., y que se expliquen con calma si el cliente pregunta.
El tono suele ser muy neutral: nada de ofenderse porque el cliente pregunte;
está asumido que es parte del proceso.
