Con 'if' podemos usar 'would' y los tiempos de pasado para hablar de situaciones hipotéticas o irreales en el presente y en el futuro. En español en éste caso se usa habitualmente el condicional y el subjuntivo.

What would you do if you lost your job?
¿Que harías si perdieras tu trabajo? (pero en realidad no has perdido tu trabajo)

If I didn’t know you better, I’d think you were lying.
Si no te conociera tan bien, pensaría que me estás mintiendo. (pero te conozco bastante bien)

If I had more time, I’d learn French.
Si tuviera más tiempo, aprendería francés. (pero no tengo más tiempo)

Podemos cambiar el orden de las oraciones (en este caso eliminamos la coma).

Manolo	Manolo buys a ticket every week, there’s a (small) possibility he’ll win the lottery. Manolo compra un billete de lotería cada semana. Hay una posibilidad (pequeña) de que le toque.
Pablo	Pablo never buys a ticket. There’s no possibility of winning. Pablo nunca compra lotería, así que no hay ninguna posibilidad de que le toque.

La diferencia entre 'If I win...' y 'If I won...' no es del tiempo. Los dos pueden referir al presente o al futuro.

El tiempo pasado normalmente indica que la situación es menos posible o imaginaria.
